Low-carb diets

Fell of the wagon last night: advice please

Hi all, after 1 month doing whole30 very successfully and 1 month after that eating very low carb (again very successfully), I had 2 occasions this week when I fell off the wagon quite badly. One was last Tuesday when I just didn't plan my day properly and ended up eating a sandwich for lunch / rice for dinner etc. I think it was also because I had a job interview on that day and was in a very particular mindset plus I have been dealing (in the last month) with a health issue (not serious but very disruptive). I still didn't eat any sugar on Tuesday and went back to strict low carb from Wednesday and actually maintained my weight loss.

Worse was last night. We had friends over. I prepared a menu that worked both for low carb and for the friends. A nice bolognese, pasta (for them), lots of roast veggies and grilled halloumi. I ended up not only drinking 2 glasses white wine, but eating some pasta and even worse some lemon tart (after 2 months of no sugar).

By the way we have friends over all the time and I'm not sure why this time was different and I ended up eating carbs.

I wanted advice as to how to get past this and just put it behind me. I put weight on SO easily and lose with difficulty (and only with low carb). I have about 10-15 kilos to lose overall but have been stuck for years. I do not want this very good effort to fail too!

By the way I've signed to do boot camp too which I'm so looking forward to as having group support is great.

Today is a new day - yesterday was just a blip. The odd wobble here and there is quite normal and natural, you can be as good as gold today (and praise yourself for it too).

Don't punish yourself! It is absolutely fine to have a day off every so often, especially since you had friends round.

I fell off and just couldn't get back on.

Giving you a shove back up onto the wagon!

It's called life! These things happen, for a range of reasons.

Hopefully you enjoyed it? Grin

Just get back on the wagon - have a couple of super strict days and drink lots of water. And don't beat yourself up about it.

Just how one good meal won't make you slim, one bad meal won't make you fat or ruin what you've already achieved Smile

Thanks everyone. I find that accountability and group support is essential for me which is why I posted here. Problem in the past has been (because I put weight so easily and lose with difficulty) that I get discouraged when I slip up and it all then kind of goes downhill from there.

Yes I'll continue with strict low carb again (until boot camp starts).

By the way BIWI, I didn't particularly enjoy it actually. The pasta felt too filling (so I didn't have that much) and the lemon tart felt too sweet after 2 months of no sugar.

I'm doing slimming world and last weekend had a Chinese, it's fine. Did I lose as much as I wanted despite being good all week? No of course not, I had like a million syns in that one takeaway, but I just carried on the other days.

I like to think of weight loss as a marathon not a sprint, just be really good for the next days, maybe reduce the calories right down for a few days, I also skipped dinner the day after my Chinese and just had some fruit, that seemed to help.

Have you weighed yourself today to see if there has been any effect?

No I didn't weigh myself as it'll hugely discourage me. I'll be very strict (which doesn't feel hard with low carb) and only weigh myself next Sunday .

Mrstumbletap - the OP is following a low carb diet, not a low calorie one. It works slightly differently unfortunately

In case and of you are following this, just to say a few days later (Wednesday) weighed myself and am the same as before falling off the wagon! So yes this stalled my weight loss (as I expected) but wasn't catastrophic.
