what does it stand for in english?. If she says the whole phrase in english, more then likely a gyneacologist will know what she's talking about (although maybe her GP won't know). Much medical research is carried out in english, so are medical journals, and foreign doctors are generally reasonally good at medical english.

But most women in France see a gynaecologist about this sort of thing and you can consult a gynaecologist without referral from a GP.
A GP can't be up to date on everything!

thats true OS you go straight to the specialist not through a gp so its easier in a way and understandable that the doctor didnt know what it was
