DH has been asked to go to Cincinnati for 3 year stint. He needs to go to get promotion in his current job. I have a good job here ( which I would have to give up ) and it would be difficult for me to get another one either in US or here when I return. It's a difficult decision as we both earn equal salaries. On the other hand, I feel pressured to keep going with the "great career" ( which isn't so great as it turns out ) & would welcome the chance to spend some time with my dds.
Any MNers lived in Cincinnati ( or Ohio?). Good/bad points. What are the schools like? Any recommendations of places to live? What's it like culturally? Is there a large expat community there? Help!

hi - i've been living in London for the past several years with my husband, but was born and raised - and lived most of my life in OH. i was born in dayton, just 45 minutes north of cincinnati. i am more than willing to provide any info i can to help with your move - having gone through it to the UK, i know how useful information can be before making decisions or going through the move!

i'm a bit biased, but cincinnati is one of my most favorite cities. the people are warm and friendly - that's usually what you find in the midwest and it's a fantastic place to raise a family. schools are good - i'm not sure if you're interested in public or private. cost of living is low. the city is not so big that it engulf you, but there is much to do. there are plenty of good options for neighborhoods, depending on what you're interested in. i don't know about the expat community there - i imagine it's fairly small.

I have a friend who went there with her dh some years ago and loved it. Both British, ended up with 4 x ds (sadly now divorced but nothing to do with Cincinnati). However they did say they would always return to UK for schooling and stuck to their guns.
