Hoping to pick some knowledgeable brains here! I've posted about our situation in the recent past (seeking on advice on moving to San Francisco) but we're seriously into negotiations now and I feel we're out of our depth.
The story so far: DH works in the London office of a US company. He's been offered a position at their head office in San Francisco. We would like to go, but have just rejected the offer in its current form, for a number of reasons. They have scheduled a video conference on Monday to go through our concerns and 'find a way to make this work'. They want DH, he wants the job, but we weren't happy with the offered salary and relocation package. Can I run it by you guys and see if anyone has any advice on whether we are being unreasonable by wanting more from them?

The points we want them to shift on:

Salary: the offered salary is only $130K. Looking at rentals in both SF and the wider Bay Area has made us see that this is not really going to get us much. We are a family of three (have a three year old DS) so are looking at two bed apartments. Our living situation will be a step down from our current three bedroom semi in a family-friendly area with a large garden, parking, playpark at the end of the road, loads of facilities in walking distance. We had a Skype consultation with a relocation rental agent who went through with us what this salary would allow, and in SF it would be a small 2 bed 1 bath apartment with no garden or parking, shared laundry facilities, shared entrance, in a less desirable foggy neighbourhood. Going through websites devoted to DH's industry we can see that 130K is about the average salary for his position - but not at his level of seniority and experience, so we've asked for an increase here. If anyone out there has any experience of living in SF on about this salary I'd love to hear all about it!

Relocation package: they're paying for our (economy) flights over, 30 days accommodation, tax assisted relocation payment of 10K, one day with a relocation agent to go through social security numbers, bank accounts etc. We've gone through some numbers and think the 10K payment doesn't seem enough to cover shipping our stuff, paying out on our current UK house rental contract, putting down a two month security deposit on an apartment, buying a car, buying any furniture etc. we'll need. We've asked them for 25K instead. Does this seem unreasonable?

Working conditions: the contract is 'work to order' ie. no notice period. Does anyone know if this is unusual in the US? He will be an exempt employee on a L1 visa. They have stated they will pursue green card for us both, and I will have an L2. They don't specify holiday allowance in the contract so we have asked them to match his UK allowance. What do you think of this?

Medical cover seems decent. They pay 100% of DH's cover and there is a family plan available which would pay for 60% of my cover. Am I right in thinking this seems okay?

So on Monday we have this video conference scheduled. It will be DH (and me) talking to the recruiting manager and the hiring manager for his department. This is a company who are known for being hard to negotiate with, and I expect them to downplay our concerns and probably be quite inflexible with our demands. Does anyone have any experience of dealing with a hard nosed large US company in this sort of situation? I don't really know what I'm asking here; just for some words of experience, I guess, and reassurance that we're not being unreasonable in our demands. If anyone has any advice I'd be SO appreciative. Thanks for reading this far!
