Anyone living in Mauritius?

My ILs are Mauritian. My FIL is suffering from a brain tumour, and sadly in decline. MIL is finding it increasingly hard to cope in the absence of any community services. She is desparate for a hoist, this sort of thing but is finding it hard to find out where she could hire or buy one from. She has been told one can be ordered from China at extortionate cost, and it would take 6 months to arrive. She cannot drive and does not use the internet.

If anyone lives in Mauritius, have you any idea whether it is possible to aquire mobility equipment in the country? My SIL will be arriving there in a few weeks and could get everything sorted, but we aren't sure where to start.

Thank you so much.

I would look at whether you could get something from Reunion. They will definitely have stuff being a French DOM. The only thing would be the import costs and customs charges.

Sorry to hear about your FIL.

yes, I don't know why her consultant hasn't suggested SA, as they send so many Mauritian patients to SA for treatment.

Reunion is in the French yellow pages, but all in French, anyone know what i should be searching for in French?

Was coming on to suggest Reunion.
It's called a "lève malade" in French...
If you look at pagesjaunes.fr and type "fournitures médicales" in "quoi, qui" and then "97400" in "où", you can find various places that supply equipment.
If you want me to translate anything/phone a supplier in Reunion (I get free calls there), PM me.
