Where do we start?

Hi, first post, I thought I should post here rather than the becoming a parent forum.

My girlfriend and I want children in the future (few years at least), we're both 23 now. I just want to know more about the process, some of the websites I have looked at are really confusing. I get really worried sometimes thinking it's never going to happen, I can't imagine never having children.

At the moment we both live with our parents, my gf works full time and I've just started my own business so not earning much right now. Planning on moving out very soon.

I am wondering things like does it cost and how much? Do we need to own a house? Do we need to earn a certain amount? Will it even be possible for us? Could we both give birth if we wanted to?

I am thinking far into the future but I know things like this can take a lot of time so I want to start looking into it now.

Ooh lots of questions! Financially it depends how you want to go about finding a donor, clinics cost thousands, private known donors cost nothing. Whereas having financial security is really really helpful, owning your own home is not particularly necessary.

Good luck

it a good idea to have a long term goal. kandle is right, if you go private you are talking about a minimum £1500 for one attempt and that is for iui one of the cheaper options. it is cheaper to find your own sperm donor, either as using a fertility clinic will cost approx £800 just for the sperm. you dont need to own your own home but you need stability both financial and in your relationship.
its definately possible and far easier than it has ever been. if it is what you both want you will find a way to make it happen

? If Ur in the UK. Treatment is free on the nhs. U get one iui and one ivf treatment. I had iui but over stimulated so had ivf instead and I caught first time. Go to your doctor and get referred.

Depends on the local PCT FinleysMummys, our local PCT wouldn't give us any help on the NHS because there is nothing wrong with my fertility save absence of sperm.

We went abroad.
