POA or similiar for disabled young person

My daughter is 17 with severe learning difficulties, she is due to have a day case operation soon and the Dr raised this today about her consenting and asked if we had it. Is this what we should apply for before she is 18? TIA

The special guardianship arrangement seems more complex and expensive.

i found some good information on Lasting Powers of Attorney on the autism.org.uk site

it covers both cases of a young person being able to consent to a LPA and what to do if they cant.

i hope its useful -- it doesnt have to cost a fortune and you can do it yourself!
