Harrassed by mad stalker woman.

I'm being harrassed online by someone I've never met but who is posting all sorts of lies about me on various forums, Facebook etc. Unfortunately, she's gaining quite an audience and people seem to believe her. She's now posting personal details about me so that other people can track me down. That's how I found out about it. Is there anything I can do to stop her?
She lives in the UK and I don't anymore so I don't know if or where I can complain?

I would go to the police. Get print outs of everything you can to help as a starting point.

I would call 101 and discuss it with them. Sounds horrible

As you are not in the UK, you can report the crime online- just Google it

Thanks for your advice but I don't live in the UK, so I don't think the British police will be interested. The websites she's posting on are mostly UK based but I think at least one is based in the states.
That's why I'm struggling to know where to go for help.

You could perhaps ask your local police where to start. Also maybe contact the websites she is posting on directly.

Why is she doing it? Are you on all the different forums too?

If she lives in the Uk, they will.

Ok,I had the same done to me by the slapper my ex ran off with (she actually done it in real life aswell though and I'm pretty sure there was something else she done). I've never met her either.

Anyway, first thing to do is contact the moderators of the forums to get it pulled.

If she is posting anything that makes you identifiable you can also contact a solicitor, but it's very expensive. The threat alone of that should make her stop. Be sure to tell the moderators of the forums that you will be instructing a solicitor if it is not removed, even if you won't.

You can also contact the police, whether they do anything is a different matter. If she is harrassing, stalking or inciting anything towards you they may.

With one forum, though, that aforementioned slapper posted about me on (I had never heard of the forum but a member from there actually contacted me to tell me was going on!) I actually signed up,posted on one of the threads she had done about me and told everyone who I was, what she was doing and what rubbish it was, they could tell I was being honest and her being a nutjob Grin and she got lambasted and after, yet another, 'I'm sorry I lied,I didn't mean to' ( used every time she was caught, only to go and do the same elsewhere or under a different name...) the threads were closed by the admin who wanted to protect themselves due to her defamation and she was pushed off the site!

I've never met this woman in real life but I left a genuine 1 star review of something she'd produced and she tracked me down via my username. I work in the same field loosely related to the product.
I only found out about the extent of her accusations & lies because she posted lots of real info about me online and someone contacted me anonymously to warn me.
Anything that's going wrong in her life she's attributing to me (!) and even posted saying I've been stalking her. Unbelievable.

Unfortunately, I'm a moderator on an online forum and some of her pals have been joining it and posting all sorts of untruths. It's now got to the stage where I'm probably going to step down so that the forum isn't unduly affected by this.

Wow,all because you left a one star review of something you bought? Jeez, that's even nuttier than the psychoslapper I had to put up with!

If she posted a lot of real life info on you by looking up your username ... Doesn't that mean you actually have posted that info and she's just connected the dots? That's a bit different.

You should ask the various forums involved to remove anything that is libellous. Note that anything she has posted that is true is not libellous.

As she lives in the UK you also have the option of suing for libel in the UK. That could be expensive but a solicitors letter warning her (and anyone else posting libellous information) that you may sue if she doesn't stop may be enough to persuade her to back down.

Yes: sue for libel in the UK. The onus is on the accused to prove that what they say is true and fair, so the advantage is very much with you.
