Hi,

My DP and I are currently in the process of setting up our first mortgage. The mortgage broker has been in touch to tell us that DP passport is insufficient evidence and we need a letter from Home Office about his indefinite leave to remain, which apparently we got when we got his passport, which I think has gone missing! I have spoken to Home Office twice.
First time spoke to a lovely man who told me that I need to speak to UKBA and gave me the number. DP phoned and was told that they don't do that.
So I called HO again and spoke to a rather brusque unpleasant woman who pretty much told me 'tough, if they don't do it, we don't do it either, there is nothing you can do'
So my questions are:
how the hell are we going to go forward with the mortgage if we don't have the document and cant get a copy of it? what will the mortgage provider do, is there anyway it can go ahead without this document? etc......
I thought things were going so well and have been waiting for a banana skin to come along. Looks like this is a whopper!

Hi, thanks for the response.
we were sent that link by our IMA who said she didn't think it was worth doing as the information they send might not be relevant and it can take up to 40 days.
DH isn't british, we have filled in all the forms for naturalisation just not gotten around to it and now we have found our future family home we want to focus on getting it.
I don't remember us getting a letter at all when we got his passport back but it was over 5 years ago so my recall might not be very accurate!

I have ILR in the UK and just had them photocopy my ILR visa (wtv you want to call it) no letter was required.
This was to apply for a mortgage this past March, which was granted.
I got ILR about 2 years ago and there was a letter that came back stating I had ILR and the visa number.
hope it all works out!
