Identity theft - what do I do

Have discovered today that a distant family member has given my previous address as their current postal address on a legal document.

I had real issues with this person stealing my identity 10 years and taking out loans in my name, which they then defaulted on. They used family members to get my personal details by saying that they were researching a family tree.

I suspect that this attempt to kidnap my previous address is just a forerunner to another Identity Theft attempt.

Does anyone know what I can do to prevent this??

I have checked my Credit reports today and have a constant watch service on my Credit files. Is there anything else I can do?

Do a protective registration at CIFAS - I think anyone attempting to take credit out in your name will have to pass additional security questions before they can proceed.

I haven't used it, but I have identity protection insurance and it includes CIFAS - that's how I know about it

Did you report them to the police? By the way - you seem to have a name change fail.....

No panto didn't report them last time because of family connection. However, told them in no uncertain terms that if it ever happened again then I would.

I won't be so understanding this time!! I intend contacting CIFAS on Monday and will probably speak to the Police tomorrow.
