CE Markings

Can anyone advise on CE markings for packaging? Am thinking of getting some stuff done for kids to play with (mainly paper/printed) and as far as I can see it wouldn't need checking and could be self-regulated.

However, I can't find a definitive guide anywhere. Can you help?

You only have to CE mark if it's a requirement of an EU Directive that your product meets certain essential requirements.

Complying with a relevant standard might aid CE marking but it is a slightly different area. The best startign point for anything to do with standards is to contact BSI (British Standards Institute), who will be able to tell you if there is a relevant standard and sell you a copy if necessary.
