Local solicitors would be my first port of call. Sometimes some solicitors do a charity will-writing thing, where instead of taking a fee they ask you to donate to a nominated charity; it might be worth looking for something like that?

Thanks OldLady. I have looked on the Law Society website for solicitors who do wills/probate but would just be sticking a pin in the list on who to choose. Since having my fingers burnt by a company recently i guess i am being a bit more cautious about just picking one whose blurb looks ok and aren't too expensive.

Charity one sounds good Smile

A mumsnetter - Mumblechum - does wills.

She has an advert in the classified section here.

She recently prepared wills for my partner and I and we were very happy with her service.

Thanks Katz/Jcee. Supporting a MNetter sounds good though so i will check her advert out Smile.

Katz - do you know what your friend's DH would charge for a basic will for a couple (with children)?

Just phone a few local companies and ask for a quote. If your finances and family circumstances are straightforward they should be able to quote a flat fee and stick to it.

Random idea but if by any chance you have a barclays additions plus account you can get a will drawn up for free - i have just had the pack through.

Thanks for the recommendation JCee!

I've done quite a few MNers Wills lately, and they've all said they'd be happy to recommend me.

My email addy is [email protected].

Standard charge for a couple is £130. No VAT is payable as my freelance business is a new startup (though I have over 20 years experience).

So long as you're in England and Wales, I can take instructions over the phone, then email the draft Wills over for approval. Once you're happy, I'll post out the perfected versions ready for signing & witnessing.

Feel free to ask for more info.

Would you come to Luton.

Hi Lizziemun, I only do home visits in the Marlow/Henley/High Wycombe area, so all my clients further afield (I cover all of England and Wales) make arrangements for telephone conferences where we can discuss your requirements, I'll advise on all aspects and then draft your Will within 3 working days. Once you're happy with the draft, I'll send out the perfected version for signature, with an explanation regarding witnesses etc.

If you're interested, my email addy is [email protected]

Thanks for your enquiry.
