Hi all! Really need some advice and help if possible?
Me and my husband have been ttc for nearly 4 years now, feels like even longer! We've been dealing with a consultant at the hospital now for just over a year, at our last appointment the consultant decided to out me on metformin for treatment of pcos. I was told to slowly increase my dosage to 3 x 500mg a day, I have and have suffered no major side effects. (Felt a little sick for a couple days when first increased but that's it.)
The past 3 cycles on metformin gave shortened to between 32-34 days (used to be 39-43 day cycles.) Since on metformin the first 2 days of my period have been light spotting, a brown colour, bot enough for a tampon, then after those 2 days my period comes and it's quite light, only enough fot a regular tampon (used to be extremely heavy) and since being of metformin, hardly had cramps and when I have they've been light.
This cycle though on day 23 I had one small spot of light brown in my pants, nothing else and I didn't really think anything of it. Then on day 31 of my cycle I had light spotting again, brown in colour and only when I wiped, not enough for a tampon or panty liner. This lasted till day 34 of my cycle, exactly the same in colour and didn't get any heavier. I woke up today and have brown again, looked like it was mixed with mucus (sorry for the detail!) Then and hour later started bleeding, from then till now I've had really bad cramps and quite a heavy period so far.
Is this normal for metformin? It's been working for the past 3 cycles but, why would it just change now? I'm still taking my medication the exact same. Should I go to the GP or my consultant maybe?
Really confused, would aporeciate some advice :/ xxxx
