Will my Gp prescribe me Clomid?.

I'm in the north east. I've been trying over a year, we've went privately and had a pelvic scan, hycosy and semen analysis. All okay but still nothing. Don't fancy paying a few more hundred pound for clomid. Will they prescripe me it to save me money or months waiting to be referred to a Nhs Fertility clinic?

I can only speak from my experience, which is no. I'd be surprised TBH as you should be monitored with scans etc while you're taking it. Do you ovulate ok? If you do you might find they won't give it to you anyway. If you get a GP referral to gynae consultant that might work?

My 21 levels are 29 and then the second lot was 31. So ovulating but just borderline..been looking up to go private. It's like £25 for the clomid but £125 a scan. What if I don't want the scans? X

You need to have the scans!!! It's really important. With Clomid you can produce multiple eggs per cycle, I managed 6 on my one and only month of Clomid (I responded too well, ironically) - if all 6 eggs ovulate and then fertilise you're potentially looking at sextuplets. Which carries massive risks for you. I very much doubt they will give you Clomid if you refuse the scans.

Mine couldn't. That was about 5 yrs ago. He said at the time that GPs used to be able to, but not anymore. It may have changed again though!

Ideally it should be done through a fertility clinic as you will need monitoring scans.

Hi Everyone Smile
Jumping on this thread again....
I have had initial fsh blood test done at GP - was fine.
Was then sent for the day 21 progesterone test and got a result of 5.9. GP said should be 16-30 and so I will need to repeat the test....BUT.....in 2 cycles time to make sure of the result.

In the meantime DH has to do his SA and again this will need to be done twice. 2 weeks have passed and we are still waiting to hear from the hospital on when he can do this.

Only then can we be referred to the hospital for further tests etc. The waiting list for a gyno app at the hospital is 59 days so I am looking at an app at the hospital around December / Jan if I am lucky and tests done by then.

Private medical insurance wont cover as not an 'illness'. BUT I am considering paying up for the private consultation......

The nurse I spoke to at the private clinic said they only really specialised in IVF but did run a TSI (timed sexual intercourse) clinic (for clomid cycles) which she could book me in for.

Its expensive and yes the NHS offer it but given we are into 3 years ttc now I feel like the private route could be money well spent.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Can offer any advice?

I would go private in the mean time to save time.
