Sorry If this has already been posted up. I agree with this campaign, do you?

" Debt adverts on childrens' television channels, especially for secured loans, are a disgrace. The TV channels responsible should immediately stop showing them.

Children?s TV channels are advertising high-interest loans aimed at families that find it hard to get cheaper credit, and with the possibility of losing their house. Nearly a third of children are repeating the slogans, and a tenth actually pester parents into getting such loans.

One Mother's Quote: "My partner wants to buy a car. My eldest son (age 8) pipes up "go to Yes Car Credit, as anyone can get a car off them". I said "oh yes, and what exactly should we use to pay them back?" and he said "don't worry, they make sure it's an affordable monthly payment".

Meant to say, this is from Money Saving Expert .com, ita a reputable site, set up by the guy who does money advice on Radio 2.

The link takes you to his site, where you can read more about the campaign.

My FIL emailed this to me today and I was going to link it on here too.

I do think those ads are abhorrent - the message they are giving our children is so insidious. You're already in debt or you can't afford something - never mind - you can have the money for that new car/holiday anyway. Taking out a loan with one of those companies is a millstone you're going to have round your neck for life

Good on you, easy, for beating me to it!

Btw, moneysavingexpert is dh's favourite site - it's his MN (sad old sod that he is!)

Signed it. Now can we just have a petition to ban the incessant crap overpriced toy ads, the junk food ads and that damn Muzzy advert with the very bad accents: "yes, that's French they're speaking and no, these children aren't French". Really? I'd never have guessed... ARGH!

tbh I'm against debt advertising at all - can't stand the 'can't really afford a new holiday, oh well, why not borrow money at 50% interest and risk losing your house, but at least the neighbours will be jealous of your tan' ads - usury

Signed - this is a real step in the right direction but if I were Supreme Ruler of the World all advertising aimed at kids would be banned too. (Litter droppers would be made to do hard labour and women who can't manoeuvre their enormous 4x4s would be ridiculed on TV as well but don't get me started......)
