An American woman allegedly abducted, kept prisoner over a 3 week period and then miraculously returned to her loved ones on Thanksgiving morning.
(lots of money raised, mysterious ransom negotiator involved, husband promised children she would return on Thanksgiving)
Has anyone else been following this?

I skimmed over an article, but I did think that something didn't add up.

I saw that interview with her husband and thought he was very "me me me" about how it was all about him and how it affected him.

Think the language he used reminded me of a best selling book. It seemed out of place"

Very strange case.

I agree this thing seems so dodgy. If she was kidnapped for sex trafficking then why chop her hair off? Why brand her? And most importantly why release her?

There's some suggestion she's done something similar before. There's a lot of old school friends, people who knew her a long time back saying she has serious issues, would often make stuff up and was a total attention seeker.

Before I saw all that I did wonder if maybe she'd upset someone/slept with someone's husband and their wife was getting revenge. Or even that her dh set it up on his own if he'd found out she was having an affair? But now I'm more suspicious they both made it up.

Is it all a bit Gone Girl?

I did read an article and think it all sounded very odd.

One thing which struck me was that the dh when he realised she hadn't come home didn't do what normal people would do and try ringing her. He said he went to "track my iPhone" and tracked it and then drove to where the phone was. Then he found the phone with hair wrapped round the ear buds and he took a photo of the phone in situ before ringing the police.

Why didn't he ring her? I guess maybe he did but that wasn't reported but the article was detailed and I would have thought if he said he'd tried ringing then it would have been reported. Would hair really be round ear buds? Even if a phone was yanked off someone when ear buds were in ears I can't imagine how hair would be pulled out due to this? My earbuds fall out frequently and don't pull my hair out? The photographing the phone before ringing the police seems odd.

To quote one of favourite gossip bloggers..

Okay, I have read a bit more.

Yes, it does read like a clunky reenactment of a crime thriller.

It is primarily Gone Girl with bits of Ransom with Mel Gibson chucked in.

I wonder if they were paying close attention to the fact that Amy in Gone Girl faked her own abduction.

And I am a bit suspicious of the two armed Hispanic women thing just as Trump was ramping up his anti-hispanic rhetoric immediately before the election. Now there is a coincidence.

And cynical old me thinks that real victims of violent crime do fewer media interviews.

Also she's got form for extremely racist articles on the internet.

Websleuths have uncovered an article she wrote in a maiden name on a website called SkinHeadz slagging off Hispanic people and posting about a fight where she beat six Hispanic people up single handedly. Her ex dh reckons she didn't write the article so I suppose there's a slim chance someone else with the same name from her town wrote it, or someone set her up....but the article was written years and years ago and the whole website is actually not even up and running now.

Possible that someone stumbled across the article and wanted to teach her a lesson??

And yy to the fewer interviews. Surely after she had been found the dh would be spending time with her, not doing lengthy tv interviews.

Him claiming they want privacy and then hawking himself around doing interviews is weird.
I don't think this is a sex trafficking case at all, she's a 34 year old housewife and mother of 2, maybe a runaway teenager might be kidnapped as a sex slave but not her.
It does seem like it was personal if it was genuinely a kidnapping case.

My first response to the story before reading any background was that it was personal and it was a punishment to teach her a lesson. I assumed her husband was involved in that but if what is posted on this thread is true then I could see it being a response to her racist posts online.
