UKIP; Immigration, Australian Rules style, but how?

Is the pin point focus on the Australian Points system because they know the majority of UK citizens want to STAY in the EU?
www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/generalelection/nigel-farage-calls-for-fiveyear-ban-on--unskilled-immigrants-as-he-promises-ukip-policy-would-not-stigmatise-wouldbe-migrants-10083830.html

The KEY problem with this policy is, 'and not a lotta TV common tators seem to know this', as certainly not asking Farage this question, is that the free movement of labour is a central pillar of the EU concept, it would require a Treaty change - and recently EU country leaders have said that the free movement works for them and they have NO INTEREST in changing it.

So please correct me if I am wrong, while we remain in the EU, an Australian Point System is not possible.

The ONLY way therefore for ANY major political party to change the EU free movement of workers, is via a majority in the Westminster parliament, holding an EU Referendum on whether we stay in or leave, and settle this issue (and whether we are economically better off out), once and for all.

There's no way we will be able to renogotiate EU membership to get out of freedom of movement, and I don't want to. It's fantastic and goes both bloody ways.
So yes, the only way is to leave, which is unlikely.

You seem to miss the point, UKIP wants us to LEAVE the EU. That way we can regain control over our own borders, rather than relying on the will of the countries with the most porous borders in Europe.

There was a really interesting radio broadcast on last night about this, World Tonight?
If UK took people on points in similar system as Aussies, then net migration to UK could rise to over 600,000.
Maybe not such a good idea.
Also, about 75,000 people a yr immigrate to Aussie by other means (not on the points system).

Flippant, but from the thread title I thought of an immigration system based on Australian Rules Football - fast-paced and with complicated scoring?

Aerfen .... the problem for UKIP is that they could have a thousand MEPs in Brussels and they could never bring the UK out of the EU, so they know the ONLY way the UK can leave the EU in the foreseeable future is via a Conservative Referendum, which votes for THEM ensures will not happen.

So they need to sound 'interesting'; so over this parliament they would deal with the (Labour) devil, they wouldn't deal, they would vote with the Conservatives, they could never deal with Cameron, the last angle was they would insist on an earlier Referendum that 2017 - the Australian Points System to bring immigration 'back to the good old days', playing on nostalgia.

UKIP have now got the sniff of parliamentary seats, to win them they can hardly now say the ONLY way for the UK to leave the EU and regain control of their borders, democratically or otherwise, is to vote for ball(s) of the blue team.
