... at the Boston Marathon

OMG those poor people.

Reports of runners finishing then running to the hospital to give blood

For every bit of faith in humanity that is stolen by people who commit such horrific acts there are those who give us a little of that faith in humanity back

i know this is not the same as 9/11 but it feels the same, the uncertainty, the breaking news, if you know what i mean ;(

Iteotwawki Mon 15-Apr-13 22:03:46

For those that wanted a link:

BBC live updates

Currently 23 injured, some with missing limbs. 2 dead.

Cannot fathom the reasoning behind anything like this.

GibberTheMonkey Mon 15-Apr-13 21:58:24

Zzz I was saying that to dh

And they go in to help not knowing if there is going to be another explosion. True bravery and selflessness

ZZZenagain Mon 15-Apr-13 21:51:42

I am always amazed at how efficient and organised the emergency services appear. THey must be fabulous people. How incredibly stressful and yet they function so well.

GibberTheMonkey Mon 15-Apr-13 21:47:02

I've been looking at Reuters and bbc. I wouldn't ever trust sky to tell it straight

WTFisABooyhoo Mon 15-Apr-13 21:44:34

if you are drawing people to breaking news. it might be an idea to add a link to the actual news. otherwise you aren't really drawing people to anything.

ZZZenagain Mon 15-Apr-13 21:41:43

I am afraid so, they have said as much

GibberTheMonkey Mon 15-Apr-13 21:40:27

It's the watchers who bore the brunt. I hope it wasn't any children.

2 more explosive devices found (BBC)

From BBC: BREAKING NEWS Boston Police Department: two dead, 22 injured in two explosions near the marathon finish line.

Hulababy Mon 15-Apr-13 21:05:12

BBc reports that there will be a controlled explosion occurring/just occurred.

HollyBerryBush Mon 15-Apr-13 20:59:35

NeBC Boston - 3rd explosion

HollyBerryBush Mon 15-Apr-13 20:52:35

Oh my :-( devices packed with ball bearings.

CutePuppy Mon 15-Apr-13 20:51:55

Ball bearings. sad

minsmum Mon 15-Apr-13 20:50:40

Thanks for letting us know.

HollyBerryBush Mon 15-Apr-13 20:50:02

DS2 is reading The Boston Globe - several more devices found.

Oh, now their site has crashed

littleducks Mon 15-Apr-13 20:48:31

Horrific.

While it looks increasingly like bombs, I agree with other posters about Sky reporting `facts` too early, a problem with most 24hr news I suppose. I can't forget all the misinformation after that school shooting, to the point that the wrong man was named and he found out his parents had been shit dead via the news.

Hulababy Mon 15-Apr-13 20:44:57

BBc have referred to a possible report of a security incident at another hotel, which was referred to as a device. But that is not confirmed, and was the only reference to a device on BBC.

HollyBerryBush Mon 15-Apr-13 20:39:36

The word 'device' has been used on sky.

This just takes me back to the height of the IRA sad

ZZZenagain Mon 15-Apr-13 20:39:27

thanks for posting the thread Holly. Hadn't been aware of this. Dreadful

Hulababy Mon 15-Apr-13 20:39:20

There is also a possible third security alert at another different hotel but this doesn't seem to be confirmed, just reported via BBC news.

caramelwaffle Mon 15-Apr-13 20:37:47

Oh crap!

Sympathies to the injured and their families.

We'll be on high alert for the London Marathon this week at work.

!

Hulababy Mon 15-Apr-13 20:37:46

The BBC and Sky websites are saying two explosions, from within a hotel near the end of the route, 3 hours after the winners have finished. Still many people about and lots of runners too who have been rerouted.

Neither say if it a bombing though, the word explosion only is used.
Likewise they say many injured but do not say about if any fatalities.

BBC is usually best to stick to for facts. Sky often report too soon and get things wrong.
