by officers on Operation Yewtree. Where's it going to end? Is anyone not a sexual offender?*
* Yes I know plenty aren't.

Any chance of just killing off the posts that name the other party, not the whole thread?

Eldritch, they may not formally name them but if they don't want a name to get out they can. Informally they often leak names themselves

Do they caution people questioned as witnesses? Do they usually search their homes under warrant? here
Sorry, that doesn't make much sense, what I mean is usually of a name has got out, it's because the police want it to.

Eldritch: (from DM article linked above)
A man in his 80s, from Berkshire, was interviewed under caution on suspicion of sexual offences after attending south London police premises by appointment at midday today.

Eldritch, if you arrest someone to explore if there's some kind of case and it turns out there isn't a case, can they then be sued for wrongful arrest? Wouldn't that risk be even higher in a situation like this?

Again, not necessarily true. I know from some previous involvement with the media that rank and file officers do often sell the names of arrested parties to journalists, whether or not it is in the interests of the investigation.
Wasn't aware of that, Loops.

Can someone remind me what the ambassador of Children in Need thing with Clifford was please?

I don't think it would found a claim for wrongful arrest. The threshhold for proper cause to arrest is pretty low, as I understand it.

I hate the power the mass media have. How has it got so bad?

From Clifford (before):
'Where is it going to end?
'I hope they (the police) concentrate on finding people like Jimmy Savile who were manipulating girls.'
I read that as girls only (not boys) - am I jumping to conclusions?
OMG not R?
Has he actually been named or is it speculation at this stage?

Probably due to the AOC for gay sex being 21 until the 90s.

I saw the story about the man in his 80s but I didn't think it implied it was him...
