Who is the carer?

carernotasaint · 30/05/2012 21:31

The woman. I was flicking through the mag in the supermarket earlier (long queue.) The article in the actual mag says she is his carer.

Who for?

She works 40 hours in a charity shop - which indicates she's available to find work.

2shoes · 30/05/2012 21:33

you can work and be a carer

carernotasaint · 30/05/2012 21:36

Hmm no mention of the "charity" who has been happy to take advantage of the fact that shes on benefits. Much like many charities and retail outlets do with workfare.

bluecarrot · 30/05/2012 21:37

It says she is a carer, but he admits he rarely actually needs looked after as the headaches are only every few weeks. I doubt anyone will look poorly on all carers because of these idiots.

Nancy66 · 30/05/2012 21:37

Charity work is voluntary carernotasaint - nobody is taking advantage of anybody in that situation.

This family, however, are taking advantage of the system

CardyMow · 30/05/2012 23:25

So, if you have an intermittant disability, you can't possibly need a carer?

That's bullshit. I don't have seizures every day - but when I do, I am unconcious and therefore need a carer. sometimes I can go 3 weeks without a seizure, sometimes I can have 3 in one day. Doesn't mean I'm not disabled.

And how many people will hold a job open for you to WORK and be in PAID EMPLOYMENT if your condition is intermittant, and therefore so is your time off sick - it can't be planned for, it might be every few weeks, it might be 6 times in a week, it might be literally an hour before your shift starts, it might be in the middle of your shift, necessitating a hospital visit or a return home to bed - and therefore leaving work short-handed.

It's practically impossible to get an employer to take you on under those circumstances.

An intermittant disability is no less disabling just because it isn't present 24/7.

carernotasaint · 30/05/2012 23:55

Good points Cardy Mow. Blue people ALREADY look down on the ill and the disabled because of articles like this.

OP posts:
bluecarrot · 30/05/2012 23:57

He said he didnt need a carer, not me!

Wingedharpy · 31/05/2012 00:13

Where do the Blue people live carernotasaint?

carernotasaint · 31/05/2012 00:21

Blue as in that reply was directed at bluecarrot. Just forgot the comma thats all.

Normal, decent people don't look down on the ill and disabled. They look down on those who pretend to be ill and disabled but are dishonest lead-swingers.

TotemPole · 31/05/2012 09:49

If she's working now for 40 hours a week in a charity shop then she must have childcare sorted out. If she took on a paid job, they'll only be worse off if there are high travel or other work expenses. So why not get a paid job in a local shop or supermarket? I don't understand.Confused

There aren't as many council properties for bigger families and the turnover is much lower than 1 or 2 bed. They could be waiting years for one to become free.

Nancy66 · 31/05/2012 10:25

her husband has a mirgraine once every 3 weeks - he doesn't need a fucking carer.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 31/05/2012 11:00

Thank you for clarifying re the blue people, that was mometarily perplexing Grin

RichManPoorManBeggarmanThief · 31/05/2012 11:09

Also, if you have 3 kids and can't afford to work because you cant afford childcare, why do you then have another three?

lemonmuffin · 31/05/2012 11:25

How can she be his carer when she works fulltime?

What if he gets a migraine and needs care when she's out at work?

MarySA · 31/05/2012 12:22

They are con merchants. Sorry. There are a lot of genuine people who of course need a carer. This person doesn't. end of story.

Marne · 31/05/2012 12:27

Rich, a lot of parents cant afford child care, doesn't mean they should not have any children Hmm.

Just a shame that the papers only cover stories of people that are screwing the system making us other carers look bad Sad.

Nancy66 · 31/05/2012 12:30

marne - the papers don't only do these stories. It's just the ones that tend to get picked up here.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 31/05/2012 12:35

Marne, people should only have children if they can afford childcare! Totally irresponsible to say you can;t afford childcare for three, and then go on to have three more. How do you suggest that is sustainable?

Marne · 31/05/2012 12:40

I can't afford childcare for my children, they have sn's (something i could not have predicted before having them), also child care was not something i thought about before having children.

Also 'if they cant afford childcare for the first 3 then having 3 more does not make a lot of difference as she already has to care for the first 3 (without child care) although i know you shouldn't look like it that way.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 31/05/2012 12:44
