Council housing for MPs

I've jsut seen something on the news about how much in expenses a local MP has claimed. ISTR that they get around £20k pa to fund a second home in London. So I wondered why the govt doesn't just buy a block of flats and house MPs in them? Would be great capital investment and would mean that MPs wouldn't get to fund a second home at the state's expense (whic presumably they get to keep when they leave office and sell on at a massive profit?)

Well, I second that totally. I think the whole political system (local and European) needs looking at from the point of view of the average man on the Clapham omnibus. Most of us wouldn't consider a necessity half of what most politicians claim as an absolute essential. Plus wives paid as secretaries would have to prove that they actually provide such services, etc.

then tony blairs son comes home - leo - pissed off his head at nine years old and they complain to the HA or council - then the council think - oh shit to evict or not to evict - after all 400 million pounds worth of funding is at stake

Oh, they get more than that to buy a home here in Edinburgh, which many of them have then sold on for huge profits at the expense of the Executive. And Parliament sits next to a lovely council area officially called 'Dumbiedykes' but affectionately known by many locals as 'Junkiedykes'.
