Cleaning soot/fire damage

Any one help with cleaning soot off my front door, and white (well it was white!) plastic door bell?

we had a fire in our closey, and everywhere is black.

I've scrubbed and scrubbed my front door with flash, which has taken most of it off, but some of it is being very stubborn.

The door bell is a wireless one, so I don't really want to have to go and buy a new one.

Any tips on getting rid of the smell too?

I've only just got over a flood we had in October, which wiped out one side of the building (3 flats) and basically they had to rebuild our homes. Oh and I had fraud on my bank account. Any one have a good luck virus they'd like to send this way please

Have you tried sugar soap on the paintwork? Not sure about the smell - I've seen folk recommend that you cut an onion and leave it to soak up the smell, but it didn't work when I tried it. Soda bic is also recommended for absorbing smell, but I don't know how much you'd need.

I haven't tried sugar soap - I'll get some when I'm out today.

Not so sure on the onion, but I suppose it can't be worse than the fire smell

Of course bicarbonate of soda - had forgotten that one - wonder where I can buy it in massive, massive quantities. Also wonder if the neighbours will think I've lost the plot completely if I start covering the closey with it

Sugar soap is fabulous - but do make sure you wear gloves when using it. You'll need to go to a DIY place. And I repeat - {{{{Good luck}}}}}

some bicarbonate of soda - check. Neighbours looking at me as if I'm nuts - double check

My front door is now lovely and clean, but my door bell is still looking quite bad.
