Boilers

Im a little confused about our boilers, there is a gas boiler in the cupboard (looks like a box) and a big tank boiler (immersion?) and both the gas ch and water are contolled by a little digital box thingy. Does this mean that the tank boiler heats up using gas or electric? and how can I tell?

Also we only use hot water for washing up (electric shower, no bath) what would be the best way to heat the water up, such as leave the hot water on all time, just for an hour a day, or not at all and use the kettle to heat water for washing up?

Sorry for all the questions but we have just moved in and this is the first time we will be on credit meters for fuel and I'mvery worried about bills.

Bld, the immersion will heat the water when you haven't got the heating on. The boiler will heat the water at the same time as the heating but you have to set it. Have you looked at how to set the timer on the boiler? Does that make sense?

I'll rephrase the immersion bit. It will have a switch and you turn it on to heat the water independently of the heating system (boiler). The boiler operates the heating system and when its on you can set it to heat the water at the same time.

Any better?

I have to say no not really , so if I turn the immersion heater off the other boiler will heat the water? Ok I shall try that. although I don't think the gas boiler is a combi boiler.

Also the digital box thingy says hot water in advance, and has options for on, off timer or once.

There is a switch in the cupboard but if I turn that off everything goes off including the digital box thing, so I'm thinking that that doesn't help. Does that mean that the hot water is heated by gas?

Oh dear. Is there not another switch somewhere that operates the immersion?

Have you just moved in recently? Did you rent/buy. I've got an instruction manual for mine and you can also go on the manufacturers website and key in the boiler model and there should be instructions on there. The 'digital box thingy' will be the timing device. You need to learn/find out how that works. You can set it for when you need the heating and hot water on.

I wish I could be more helpful. Tbh, I've had a new system 2 years ago and I'm still struggling with it (it would seem the timer is wired wrongly)! But that's another story.

Any progress?
