How can I get motivated to clean my house?

Well a certain amount of it is just getting off your arse and doing it. No one can do that for you! Something that works for me is writing a list the night before of jobs I am going to tackle and then working through it as quickly as I can before having a rest and a treat, eg read some of my book ro ring a friend. I also find that aiming to do one room at a time to a reasonable standard is more satisfying and motivating than tatting round the corners of all the rooms to little effect.

1. invite some one round, giving yourself an hour or so to tart place up before she arrives
   
2. promise yourself a treat eg cup of tea after completing one or two chores.

write a list of benefits of tidying up. 'when the house is tidy/clean I feel xxx and I don't feel xxx'.

sort out what really makes you happy/gets you down, and concentrate on those jobs

If you can't think of anything to say then dont bother tidying!

Just do one thing first I find once i've got off my arse to do one thing I get motivated to do the rest.

set a timer for say 15 minutes and do as much as possible without stopping

if you are watching tv, always get up and do a job during the commercial break

never step over something that needs doing. Pick up teh pile of washing/the mug that needs washing etc as you go past.

Posting only to bookmark thread in the hope of great ideas on how to restore some order to the bombsite I call 'home'.

Don't even have the wits to do a 'to do' list which has worked in the past. I don't want to lose the momentum of having free time at last (DS2 started school for the first time today) but I just don't know where to start.

I am not helped by the fact that the dishwasher and the hoover are both on the blink and making life difficult.

Knickers - your house must have been in pretty good shape if you managed all that before bed. I'm in Niecie's position - DD starts on thursday so I will ahve no more excuses not to do the housework! Although she doesn't go full-time until 6 Oct.....
