How do you clean wodden chopping boards?

Yes, my question really is as dull as it sounds! I have never known how to clean woodn chopping boards. I wash them with washing up liquid. Is this how everyone else does it or are you supposed to use sprays or something stronger like the perfect women in the adverts do?

I prefer plastic as I just put then in the dishwasher.

But I have a wooden cheese board and I wash it with warm soapy water and a brush. Leave it to dry naturally.

I must be slightly less than perfect as I just bung mine in the dishwasher

Im a really lazy cook/housewife, I use mine for everything and just bung it in the dishwasher after each use

What do you use for meat then, littlelapin? Plastic? I didn't know you could put them in the dishwasher...

my parents had a restaurant when I was growing up. We used to periodically clean them with bleach to disenfect, and then rub mineral oil in. However, the Health Dept (this was in the states) rules that wooden blocks were un-hygenic, and we had to start using plastic.

I just squirt a bit of washing up liquid on it and give it a scrub. Then dry it immediately. One of the few things I don't put in the dishwasher.
