URGENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How to defrost a freezer as quickly as poss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fecaking bloody DP left tghe freezer open ALL NIGHT, so half of the suff in my freezer is deforsted, so I'll either have to cook it or throw it away

Anyway, because the door was open, there's loads of ice around the front, so I can't close the fecking door.

I haven't been the best at defrosting it v ofetn either so there is loads of ice in there anyway, so it need defrosting quickly. I have found about 3 years worth of prished food, including some weaning type ice cube purees I did fro DS1 when he was about 7 months old (he's now 2.8) I'm a slut, I know.

Anyway, I have been hacking at it,. and usung the hairdryer, but the ice won'r bloody shift! I need to do it pronto, as I can only store so much in next door's freezer for so long!

Also, had to switch the fridge off to switch off freezer as they are on the sme isolator switch ( thius house is great) so I don;t wat everything in fridge getting fucked also

bowl of boiling water set inside the drawers works pretty well

Bowls of hot water - every time. Just keep replacing them as they cool down. And resist the hacking if you possibly can.

Have you got a syringe (kids medicine type will do). If you fill it with hot water you can direct the water exactly where you want it - so you use it to melt a line across the top of the ice so it detaches from the freezer. It's a bit labour intensive but gets the job done very quickly.

Hve just filled a squrty bottle with hot wtare, which is helping a bit, but it's still taking forever.

PUt the boiling water in bakingtrays/roasting tins, - you'll have to replace it more often, it'll cool down quicker, but it covers a larger area.

A thick cloth (like a shammy) that holds a lot of water, or a sponge maybe. Hot water from the tap (hot as you can stand). Set about the ice with the hot cloth.

Works for me.

Hack ice in to tall glass
Pour gin over ice
Add slice of lemon and tonic
Sit back savour the drink whilst watching the freezer slowly melt .......

YIAM you have the right approach to freezer defrosting, I feel.... repeated often enough it might even allow you to forget about the £100's of food defrosting while you wait
