A cheap but decent hand held vacuum?

I have 2 young children and am growing tired of running for the dustpan and brush I quite fancy a hand held vacuum but am worried that unless I fork out £££ for a dud on, that am wasting my time. Can anyone recommend a decent one that won't break the bank? Thanks in advance!

Watching with interest because I've been thinking of getting a handheld vacuum rather than having to get the big one out every day to clean up crumbs, etc but I can't afford an expensive one.

We have a £75 Morphy Richards from Amazon and it's perfectly adequate.

Works best on hard floors vs carpet but still goes ok on carpet and rugs, has a 30+ min battery - more than enough to do our 2 bed flat, a nice stand so it can be kept plugged in in the kitchen all the time, easy to empty and clean etc.

I got a Vax gator, the orange one, it was about £28 on Amazon.

I got it to clean up the crumbs the DC leave in their wake, and it does it brilliantly, even really soggy weetabix out of our short pile carpet came out a treat even though it isn't a wet and dry one.

I have a Vax cordless and the hand held part comes off to hoover settees etc. I didn't expect much from it but it is great on hard floors for crumbs and dog hairs. It's also fine for carpets. It keeps a good charge.

I bought it from the Vax discount site and found all the info on the Money Saving Expert site. Worth a look, it was a great bargain!

I've got the Argos one that is about £20 and it's rubbish. Picks up about two crumbs before getting blocked, it is easier and quicker to get the Hoover out or sweep than keep unblocking it. So don't get that one!

Equally dont bother getting the lidl one. Doesn't charge properly, can't cope with hair and cuts out if the bits are too heavy. I'm taking it back for a refund. Not fit for purpose.

Okay. Sounds like cheaper is fine as long as stick with a known brand? Off to check the reviews on Amazon..

Honestly I'd get the Dyson I got mine when it was on offer for 199 and I couldn't be without it now. I'd never use it as my only hoover, I have a Dyson ball but it's great for inbetween cleans end crumbs! Does a very good job I don't think any others could be better or as good for a cheaper price :)
