How do I clean my floorboards?!

Sorry if this is an utterly ridiculous question, but I need help!

We moved a few months ago to a new house with real floorboards in most of the rooms. I love the floorboards, but I've never had them before and don't really know what I'm doing! In some rooms they're stained (and slightly shiny) and in others they're sort of matte.

I've tried hoovering them, and have dusted the skirting boards with a fluffy duster, but I feel like I'm missing something. Should I be sweeping and mopping them like the kitchen and bathroom? Worried about mopping in the living room as we have a basement below and think water might drip through gaps and get in the electrics (the light comes through from down there so I know the spot lights are right under the floorboard). Or is hoovering/dusting the way to go, the duster seems like it might be moving the dust around?

Thanks in advance Smile

Definitely no mopping or you'll warp the wood. I'd hoover and then wipe over with a wrung out microfibre cloth or mop.

One of those microfibre mops with the the water tanks on the handle, and Method wood floor cleaner, it smells of almond oil and is especially for wood floors.
