You don't need a copy of bills

Ring all your utilities and ask for online billing.

As soon as a letter comes in, read it then bin it

If it's an apt, diary it then bin the letter

Thanks for the quick replies.

What about things like bank statements (have in the last month changed mine to online statements) and things like rent statements???

I have online credit card and bank statements, I keep a yrs worth of pay slips until I get the p60.

I used to keep everything, for no reason other than fear of needing them. I have my most recent bills, water, utilities, insurance, council tax in case of needing reference no's to contact them but nothing older than a year. I'm not sure about rent info though.

Does anyone keep P60's ?

I keep water bill/council tax bill as we have to use them for identity at the council tip.

V5/Car Insurance/MOT

Anything from DWP, Inland Revenue

if you run any business (including a rental) and/or do a tax return, keep the documents for 7 years; put each year in a folder and do a one in one out. Plastic box with lid in the loft makes a good archive!

keep:
payslips for a year
receipts, guarantees, manuals for stuff you own
current car documents
house insurance stuff

get statements online!

Need p60s for tax purposes and possible pension queries when you get to pension age.....depends on how your pension works though.

P60 should be kept for up to 6 years.
