I can advise how to get it off sofas, telly's, floors, walls, baby gate, doors, tumble dryer, washing machine, windows and the 2 year old in question but not a rug. Sorry.

What colour is the rug?,we found as we cleaned up the polish is just spread before actually coming off. (Not helpful)

What is the rug made off and is the polish wax polish in a tin or the liquid stuff?

You need to scrape up any excess onto kitchen roll then use white spirit or dry cleaning solvent. Once the marks have gone, use original Stardrops in cold or barely warm water to clean the treated areas of the rug. An old tea towel dunked in the water and well-squeezed out will do the trick. The key thing is not to get the rug more than damp.

Thank you both for responding I was beginning to think I'd never get it out.

The rug is a very pale golden brown. The shoe polish is the kiwi stuff you get out of a tin but I don't know if it has wax in it.

I will try the White spirit and see how I get on. Once again many thanks

Then it's what I call wax polish - hope it comes out.

You could maybe try a sticky stuff remover as that dissolves wax & grease. Then spray some carpet cleaner & rub with a damp cloth.
