it's happened a few times now, taken ds's tops out of the wash and they're covered in greyish, almost grease looking marks. Why is this happening?and how can I get the marks out?I tried soaking in vanish gold last time, didn't work at all.I clean my machine fairly regularly.it's driving me crazy and costing me a fortune

I'm sure I read on another thread that these marks are caused by something in the machine "going"
Can't recall if it was bushes or bearings but I'm sure it was one of them.
You could try a site search op, it may bring up the thread.

There have been quite a few different threads about washing marks so it may have been rusty marks or black marks meaning something broken, I hope so seeing as you've just replaced your dryer!

I usually clean my machine with soda crystals in the drawer & drum, put on a hot wash.
When finished take out the drawer, wipe off any residue that might have built up, wipe around rubber seal & empty the filter.
Have you tried that?

You could try a few things. A maintenance wash and switch to powder if you're not already using it would help.

The other thing to check is turn the drum empty my hand - how does it feel? It is turning smoothly or is it making a rumbling noise and very rough, feels like it's grinding almost? Also, gently rock the drum backwards and forwards - is it very stiff and in place or loose and moving freely? If the drum is rough to turn and very loose, then the drum bearings are going and the machine will need to be replaced. Worn bearings leak oil and grease into the drum.

Sounds like soap scum from low temperature washes.. I had this. I did a couple of 90 degree washes with an empty machine and bio powder. You need to wipe the drum afterwards to get rid of the bits. Maybe do some extra rinses.Go onto the UK Whitegoods site. It's run by very knowledgeable washing machine engineers and there are forums where you can post about problems. Also there are some stickys for FAQ.

I had exactly this recently. I soaked in vanish then put through a 40 cycle with loads of bio twice. It was all pale coloured footy kit and stuff that couldn't be hot washed. No idea what caused it but it got it out

I have this. I second maintainance hot washes. I've had some success removing the greasy patches with hot washes. It's strange as only seems to be certain materials that get the greasy spots. Mainly Jersey t shirt type material.
