I need to buy a new vacuum cleaner and a new iron (and in fact an ironing board!). Would appreciate some recommendations please and in particular would like to hear about allergy vacuums Grin

For allergies, bagged vacuums are much better. Miele are one of the best. They have very high filtration levels and the bags are self sealing so you don't come into with any dust. We have the C3 Cat & Dog which comes with different floor heads for carpet and hard floors. It's fantastic.

We also have a Sebo x1 upright. That's also very good but I prefer the Miele. We have tile, carpet and wood flooring so the Miele works best for us.

Iron wise, we have a Bosch steam generator. It's about 4 years old and can't fault it. We used to have a Morphy Richards but it leaked all the time.

This might help. A little video about the Miele bags

No problem :).
We were going to buy the Miele Solution HEPA model as it comes with the top level filters, but it actually turned out cheaper to buy the Cat & Dog and just buy a HEPA filter seperately. As it turned out, we didn't need to bother with the HEPA filter at all - the (cheaper) carbon filters in the Cat & Dog do a great job on their own. I've found with the Miele that the bag does most of the filtering.
