How easy is it and how long would it take to build Ikea Pax wardrobes?

Have just bought a Pax wardrobe with sliding doors to be delivered tomorrow.

My DH is useless at DIY - my dad is good at it, but it is a two-person assembly and so either me or DH would have to help as well.

Can anyone tell me how easy a job it would be, and give me a rough estimate of how long it would take a good DIYer with a helper?

Other option is to use the Ikea assembly service - it would be £125, but am wondering if it might be money well spent to get a good job done.

I just asked dh if he would pay that after doing ours-he said no but is 2 years since he did it! Make you you assemble it exactly where you want it. Ours is too close to the wall so we can't fully open curtains as it is too heavy to move. It wasn't an easy job but you only need the second person to hold stuff-they dont need DIY knowledge. The doors take hours!

A handyman did 4 for us (3.5m) in 7 hours. By himself! That didn't include internal fittings.

It would be no problem for a good DIY-er plus helper. Depending on how big they are it would be easily do-able in under a day. I put a small Ikea wardrobe together in just over an hour a few weeks ago.

DH who isnt really into DIY but is quite practical did our frame and doors last weekend, in one day (though we had a slight issue with a door so actually only completed project yesterday). And then we fitted in the chest of drawers / shelves / rails etc the next day once we worked out where everything was going to go. Our room has never looked so tidy, i cant believe how much storage space it has created Smile. agree that the doors were a faff though, measuring each one to make sure you put the door knob exactly in the same place (not pre drilled).

I did mine myself, 1x 100cm and 2x50cm. I was 6months pregnant and did them single handedly. The only help I asked for was needing a second pair of hands to lift them onto their feet. They really are very simple, just make sure you have them laid out EXACTLY in the pictures, or you'll probably make a mistake.
Mine didn't have the sliding doors though, that might be more tricky than hinges

Well we left ours at our old house when we moved as we didn't want to have to take them apart again....

This was quite few years ago. I seem to remember it took ages but wasn't that difficult. Hardest bit was putting the back on as you needed loads of room.

We did ours in an afternoon. the major problem was that they were so tall we couldn't put them together and then stand them up, there wasn't enough clearance. As a result I was straddled over two step ladders holding up the two slides, balancing the top on my head, whilst DH screwed together....at the time I remember thinking this isn't what the cartoon fitting instructions show!!!!

A run of sliding door pax will take you the best part of a day (if you've never built them before)

They're quite easy though.

Depends if you'd rather pay someone a 'day rate' to do them, so you just get to enjoy them!

Teddie You should be quicker than that if you've been building them for ten years! Grin Wink

I'd definitely pay that to have them assembled!

I build Pax for a living i sweden on orders from ikea. Normally a frame is 15 min. The time consuming part is sliding doors, lights on every shelf and full of drawers( that you have to build) did 2x75 1x100 and a side extention pax with full interiors and lights with sliding doors by myself in 10 hours. If your not used to building them expect at least 3 times longer.

They are incredibly easy to build.

DH and I built two doubles and a single, all joined together and fixed to the wall before lunch. We did the internal fittings after lunch.
