Recommendations for a clothes airer/dryer

I've decided we need an airer. I want one that:

• doesn't fall over
  
• folds up small enough to hide behind sofa
  
• takes lots of stuff!
  

It'll go in the living room, not over a bath or anything.

What do you use, and is it any good?

Haven't found anything small, but I use a garment rail from Argos (this one) although there are more expensive options. I bung everything on hangers and the clothes dry relatively crease free. I then have a concertina airer for knickers/socks - that is huge but does fit in the wardrobe if I need to hide it.

To store the hanging airer, I just dismantle it (the horizontal rails slide out in about 2 seconds) and stick it behind the sofa. Also it means I can stick it outside if it's a nice day (although I wind rubber bands round the hanging pole to keep the hangers from blowing off).

Also useful for the study/guest room which doesn't have storage when family visit.

I love my minky three tier one, folds flat perfect for under the sofa

I use two, both Minky (which always makes me laugh!)
I have a big airer which folds flat but can be quite tall. it should go behind a sofa though. it has flip out hangers at the top for shirts which is really handy and is very sturdy.
We also have what we have nicknamed "the probe" because it looks like a big blue alien probe! it has 3 legs and 3 arms and is just for hanging up tops on hangers. It folds into a tube and is so handy for DPs work shirts.

I've had it for so long I can't recall where I brought it from but I think the design is best for small spaces. I can get 2 loads on it if I need to, it takes up minimal space, and folds down small.

I also find one of these very handy.

I occasionally think my life will be revolutionised by lust after the Lakeland electric clothes dryer/hanger but I think it will be too big for my space.

gosh I just saw the Minky concertina one is £50!!!! I can't remember what I paid for my "non-Minky but similar design" one but I'm a cheapskate and can't imagine paying any more than £15. Mind you that would have been about 10 years ago.

ok so it sounds like people rate the concertina shape more than the 3 fold rail, or the 'table top- design, is that right?

I'd like to get something that will really last, and I've had bad experiences with the plastic coming off the metal ones, and then rusting and leaving marks.

Do you reckon it's worth getting a wooden one?

I think this'll mostly get used for children's clothes, underwear, maybe nappies - we dry everything we can outside, and have a ceiling airer as well, but totally run out of space on winter 'wash days'.

mines a crome one not had any issues at all, my old one was patched with nail varnish and hey presto no rust.

We have a Minky 4 tier one its 8 years old now but it's very sturdy and still looks as good as new. I found cheaper ones buckled under the weight of wet clothes

i have the heated one from lakeland its brilliant especially in winter!

i have this one.. It is good because none of the clothes overlap, you can peg things to it so i can use it outdoors without everything blowing away and you can carry it indoors quickly and easily if it starts to rain.

I think ikea do a similar style, but it's not so big. This style is popular in italy and germany, but quite hard to come by here.
