How do I get a blob of grease out of a cardigan that's wash at 30 please?

I have a big grease mark on a favorite cardigan that is mainly cotton and wash at 30.
I have washed it then soaked in my usual washing powder and washed again with not much change.
I was thinking washing up liquid as that breaks up grease. I have some vanish powder but am scared of taking the colour out of it.
Any advice please!

Yes, washing up liquid as its a degreaser.
Vanish won't do anything as its a bleach

Put a blob of WUL on and rewash. If still no joy, repeat but try at 40- if your cardi is wrecked slready you've got nothing to lose?

cover it with talcum powder and rub it in to the grease spot. Leave it overnight, then shake out and wash in biological.

If its currently dry put some brown paper on it (non shiny side touching the stain) and iron it, should bring the grease off - repeat till nothing coming off on the brown paper.

Rub talc into it, rub gently with iron at appropriate temperature (no steam) and rub the talc out (may need another wash if dark).

Rub/draw on with chalk on both sides then wash :)

Always works for me

I've seen for myself someone trying the tip below and then tried it myself, although I was prepared to lose the trousers if it didn't work. However, it did, spectacularly,

If it wouldn't be the end of the world if it didn't work (i.e. the garment is ruined anyway because of the grease blob) try this:

  • spray WD40 on the grease blob
  • wash as normal in the machine. You'll find that the stain appears to have 'spread out'. Don't panic!
  • wash again normally. The stain should have gone.

I used this to rescue a pair of favourite walking trousers I'd bought in Canada.

bit of soda crystals in the wash should do the trick.

eucalyptus oil is excellent for removing grease stains. just put a drop or two on the stain and then bung it in the machine as normal. stain will be gone and it freshens the washing machine as well!
