Chest freezer - how to organise?

We're considering getting a chest freezer rather than an upright freezer for the garage. If you have one, how do you organise it interally? The ones I've looked at, seem to have one basket and then the rest is just a void. How do I stop everything disappearing never to be seen again? We have a fridge with a small freezer section in the kitchen which is where the "grab" bits like frozen peas are so in the chest freezer will be the stuff like ice cream, ready meals, spare bread, batch cooking etc so if I know I'm going to need any of that, I can get it out in advance so I don't mind if I have to do a bit of ferreting about to get to the items but I do want to be able to actually find the things which are in there.
Thanks!

I use big bags and fill them with the same sort of things, so one has vegetables, one soups, one meat, one bread and so on. I think you can them in lakeland, but i just used supermarket shopping bags. I use the small freezer in the kitchen for open packets and things I use on a regular basis and the rest just goes in the big freezer. I would say that if you can afford it, buy an upright one as it is easier to find things in it.

Same way as Homeaway, but with boxes instead of bags.

I also have a small whiteboard on my fridge freezer with a list of what's outside. Means I can meal plan with ease when DH updates it properly

I have an old upright in my garage (had a new kitchen and old one became redundant) but also landed up with spare chest freezer in the garage.....anyway, my point is that they seem to do different jobs....upright for me is a spare bread products, large items, ice in summer freezer. Upright has meat, ice cream and stuff I buy in from shopping. The one in the kitchen has bagged leftovers, breakfast bread stuff like crumpets, rolls for lunch, homemade soup etc, bags of peas things I need to hand. With the upright I tend to make sure I put big things at the bottom bit then clear it out every 2 to 3 months to make sure nothings disappeared altho I like the whiteboard idea....
