Something similar to flylady but without the sparkles?

Does anyone know of a system that's similar to flylady (but not flylady!). I've tried the system before - but there were a lot of parts I just couldn't stand. I didn't feel it was remotely suited to a house where there were 2 parents working, and the site was just far too pink and sparkly for me to handle. Add the religious overtones (I do have a faith, but I don't need to include it in my cleaning routines!), and the irritation factor just took over so much that I couldn't get any use out of what I'm sure was good advice.

I'm due my second child in August, and then we'll be moving house (and country and continent!) in December, so I really need to get myself into a half decent routine now to avoid complete chaos later (especially as I don't do heavily-pregnant-in-the-heat well, and the summers can get very hot here, so I don't expect to be able to do much at all in July/August)

Thanks!

There is a flylady thread on here where you just get the jobs for the day and can chat if you want.

I've got the Home Routines app (for iPhone/iPod Touch). It's like Flylady but without the syrupy stuff - just lists the tasks and you can tick them off as you go. I've only been doing it a couple of days but I really like it. You can edit the tasks and add your own if the preset ones aren't right for you.

Having said that, I do think the way that Flylady builds routines is helpful - the way you start with just one thing until it becomes a habit. Home Routines is a bit full-on and overwhelming by comparison.

I use the home routines app, have edited the tasks so they include the bits of flylady I care about (I don't get dressed to my shoes!) I also get the daily digest email from fly lady & if I have time I look at the daily missions & detailed cleaning stuff, but if I don't I just delete it!

I'm due DC2 in 2 weeks & am hoping DH & DM will help me keep up a VERY basic routine when it arrives, but fully expect to go right back to the beginning & restart the babysteps once I've worked out how to cope with 2 DC!

Hi OP, I found Motivated Moms on the other thread. I love their task lists clean-cut simplicity - see here for a sample. Because nothing is perfect, they too insert Bible readings into their routines, but fortunately you can opt out (they offer a Bible verse fee version of their calendar Grin).

You could introduce the Motivated Moms gradually - start by cleaning your sink like the Flylady, then use their daily and weekly routine as a template but build your own little by little (I copied theirs but adapted it as I work part-time - my major routines are an 1 hour quick but thorough house cleanup on one day, an 30 minute bathroom routine on another, plus a 15 minute routine in the kitchen each night.) You can tape the daily routine and the weekly routine to the refrigerator door and encourage your partner to tick off boxes too.

Flylady is simply too messy and irritating for me. (The put on some shoes part???) I don't like her cluttered website at all and I already get enough junk mail, I don't want any from her.
