It's a fairly new membership organisation and stands for The Home Education Network UK. I joined up yesterday and just wondered if anyone else from here had?

We are members of Education otherwise which is the biggest HE organisation I think- it's cheaper too.
Not sure if this offers anything more .
Why did you choose this particular one FBB?

So you only receive newsletters when the membership reaches 100?

What do you actually get for your money until then?

No, hadn't heard of it - haven't got my bum in gear to join EO yet anyway.

No, you receive newsletters from the start of your membership, however, once membership reaches 100 they are in full colour, printed and delivered to your door.

Hi all, sorry for not coming back sooner

I have now become involved with THEN UK as more than just a member - I am putting together one of the newsletters.

I have never been a member of EO so cannot comment on whether or not THEN UK offers anything more. However, the person who set up THEN UK, used to work for EO until recently. She has not set up THEN UK as a competitor to EO, and has not had any falling out with anyone there. She just wanted to do something a bit different.

So, what do you get for your money?

The aims are for the members to receive: Membership cards, a bi-monthly newsletter for adults, a bi-monthly newsletter for children, monthly childrens competitions with excellent prizes, access to an online parents group, access for your children to a moderated members-only online childrens group, an annual holiday, regular members gatherings, a members chest for members to apply for some financial help towards items needed for home educating, etc.

The newsletters will be available to everyone to download to begin with (the first issue of each one is in production as we speak), but when member numbers allow these will be professionally printed in full colour like a magazine which will be posted directly to members' homes.

Some competitions will be entered by completing an entry form, or submitting something, for example a T-shirt design, but there will also be prize draws which all members will be entered into automatically.
THEN UK will issue certificates to all children who send something in to be featured in the newsletters or on site, comp winners, etc.

THEN UK is aiming to have a Freephone HE enquiry number for people to ring for advice, as well as having a HE contact and a SEN contact.

All members will have a say in the running of THEN UK.

THEN UK will also have a massive resources section on the website - it aims to be a one-stop-shop.

The website is still being tinkered with, so keep checking back for new things being added www.thenuk.com

This is not about who's biggest, EO or THEN UK. THEN UK simply aims to offer something different that is run by the members, for the members.

I hope this helps! If you have any more questions, please feel free to use the Contact facility on the website, or post your questions here (but please bear in mind I am not able to be on here every day)
