Has anyone ever sold their old roof tiles to a reclamation yard?

If so was it worth it?

We are replacing the entire roof on our 4 bed detached - and our builder has "brokered a deal" - I won't say how much for but it seems very low.

I havent, but I bought a load of reclaimed slates for our roof - we had it redone and managed to save about 3/4 of the slate to be reused and I bought the rest. I think I paid £1.25 per slate, total was about £750 for the amount I needed.

I haven't, but think of it like trading in an old car v a private sale. You'll never get as much for it because there has to be margin for the reseller. Add to this the collection, storing and marketing costs. How much of the cost of new tiles the price you've been offered cover? Is the builder taking a cut?

Hi, yes we did and got almost 4000 pounds for old handmade clay tiles (was a large roof) - basically paid for all the new clay ones. Ring round the salvage yards until you find an honest guy. They sell them for about 1-.135 pound so you should get at least 80 p a tile if in good condition. Roofers are very well known for pocketing the profit, it is one of their trade tricks, albeit can be quite dishonest. Not saying your roofer is doing this, but roofers have told me that is what happens.
