Do all lampshades fit all lamps?

Hello! Stupid question. I have this lamp
m.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/art/90163865/

I've had it for about 100 years so want to change the shade, but now I realise I've never changed a floor lamp shade before. Can I just buy one I fancy from anywhere? Do they all fit all lamps or is there more to it than that?

Not all shades fit all lamps.

Oh bummer. So how do I find one that fits, aside from at ikea?

I think ikea lamps are non standard size, like their beds and bedding so you might be restricted to their own stuff

Can you post the fitting bit?

I had to fit a frame to a shade I brought back from NZ, Ikea base too. If the inner ring of the shade frame is bigger than the fitting on the base, you should be able to get a clip that makes the inner ring smaller. If the shade inner ring is too small then there's not much you can do without reconstructing the shade....measure the diameter of the base fitting and carry that measurement around with you...

no, no they dont

I have an ikea lamp and the shade got broken, the exact copy replacement I bought from dunelm is identical in every respect except for the fitting.

it's the round bit that fits (or not) onto the bulb holder......it is snipped and taped on with gaffer tape, I am past caring.
