Suggestions wanted for single bed with storage space underneath

We are looking at doing up the bedroom of my DS aged 14. His bedroom is a typical third bedroom in a 3 bedroom house, ie once you have fitted a bed in there is not a great deal of room left! Currently, he has a mid-sleeper which looks too big for the room. We are planning to ditch that, but could really still do with some storage space under the bed. (I don't think a high sleeper would work because our house has quite low ceilings, so I think my DS would end up feeling like his nose was in danger of scraping the ceiling when in bed!) Any suggestions appreciated!

We have an ikea day bed in our spare room

It has good sized drawers underneath. Does pull out into double but they probably have models that don't. My only issue is I don't find ikea mattresses comfy.

All our beds lift up so the whole base can be used for storage.
