Day bed or sofa bed, on a budget

We're moving soon and will have a spare room that needs to be office/spare room and kids playroom combined.
We're hoping to have something to sit and sleep on but have a fairly tight budget (definitely less than £1000, nearer £500 max) We have no idea what to get.
I like the look of this day bed from Ikea: www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/50080315/ but would really appreciate any advice or suggestions.
Thanks for your help!

We had that daybed and it was fab. Stylish and comfy. An absolute bugger to put together though. 5 hrs plus? I would buy it and pay for someone to come and put it up for you, should still be under £500

Also for a playroom I'd put some protective tape on the corners

Thanks for the tip, chchchchange. Good to hear you thought it was confy- that's my main concern about sofa beds!

We have this daybed in DS bedroom for sleepless nights/when guests come to stay and we love it!! My DH and I often sit on it watching our little one play (he has quite a big bedroom) and it's so comfortable. We have the mattresses from ikea too think they were about £80 and all in was still less than £500. I love the fact it has storage and that you can't see underneath the bed where the other bed is kept (other's are open and I feel they sometimes look a little messy). The only thing I have noticed is by having the 2 single mattresses on top of each other, the top one tends to slip so you have to keep pushing it back on when you get off, but I'm sure there are some kind of mattress clips I could use to solve the problem.

We have the other very similar day bed from ikea. If you get decent mattresses for it (Ikea allow you to choose the mattress from a few options) yes it is very comfortable and we really like ours. The drawers are very useful too.

Like a lot of ikea stuff it's mostly laminated particle board so it's not the most robust thing in the world (it will chip if it gets a hard bump), and we have the hemnes bed side tables which stained quite easily (coffee cups in our case). Something to consider for a playroom perhaps.

As app said it's a complicated one to put together - get the methodical person in your house to do it not the person (like my DH) who doesn't really read the instructions properly Wink

Have it. Love it. Been taken apart and put together again 4 times now and still going strong. It's pretty, and is the most ingeniously useful thing. So much storage under it! I don't know why any other style of day bed exists now!

It's not that bad to put together. We can dismantle, move and reassemble in under an hour now, but we've had practice Grin
