Carpet fitting question....

Are carpet fitters able to fit carpets with furniture in the room ( eg move furniture too be side, for carpet in empty side, then move furniture to other side?). Or does the room really have to be cleared completely?

The room should be cleared for the best job.

The room should really be cleared completely, not only can moving furniture make them late for later appointments, they can be liable for any damage to furniture.

Ime the room should be cleared. However if the room is a decent size and you have a bed or sofa you can't easily move out or fit anywhere else they will usually work round them as the item of furniture can be moved to one side.

We have a if heavy wardrobe that I'm reluctant to try and shift, but perhaps I could dismantle it. Point taken! Many thanks.

At the very least empty the wardrobe. If you can remove the doors, do so and let the company fitting the carpet know that it will be in the room.

You can choose fitters who move furniture, that's what we did.

If it's very heavy and you're reluctant to try and shift it then how is the fitter going to manage?

Some fitters understand that everyone isn't physically able to shift furniture out and / or dismantle it, so will offer that as part of their service - which you would pay extra for.
Some fitters who work for bigger chains will be likely to have to fit a certain number of rooms in a day, and that is based on optimum conditions - ie the rooms being empty - so aren't 'allowed' the time by their managers, to shift furniture about.

Yes NumptyNu! It's well worth asking around. We "interviewed" about 5 or 6 different companies trying to find all the bits we wanted 1) a specific carpet, 2) fixing door lengths where they need to be raised, and 3) ability to shift furniture. "All" we did was pack up everything, so the books in book cases were boxed up, tables and lamps and ornaments were stored, that kind of thing. Some companies charge additionally for this and some don't. Ours charged for the doors but not to shift furniture.

Our fitters would move up to 5 pieces of furniture per room. Didn't do doors though
