Home decoration

Long thin hall

I'm moving to a new (to me) rental house. It is single storey and has a long thin hall. At the far end is a door to the master bedroom that's runs across that end of the house. As you look at that door down the corridor the right hand side has 2 doors, one to each of the bedrooms and to the left hand side it has a door to the bathroom, a storage room, the futility room and then a door to the loo!

How do I decorate this? As its a rental house I can't do anything in the way of a sunpipe or down lighters. I've no idea what colour to paint it or how to make it lighter at all. Currently the ceiling is white, the walls magnolia and the doors brown with brown frames.

Help me please.

Is there a socket you could plug a standard lamp into and have it on a timer plug or remote control?

How about a mirror near a light source to help reflect the light around?

I like the idea of a mirror/s. As yet though I haven't seen in the house the tenant doesn't leave until mid Feb. And she isn't letting anyone in! I'm surmising as I have seen the plans, not so detailed to show sockets, although I do suspect there won't be many. The agent says the tenant is likely moving out this coming weekend, we can then take a look and finally confirm if we want it, while they confirm what work they will undertake before we move in.
I'm not expecting high standards as the rent is cheap to reflect this. However they are happy for us to do anything we want but of course there is no return on our investment except for (the very important IMHO) quality of life. We shall see what it's like. I'm very excited. The house, location and plot suit us perfectly and we will spend some as we are spending less rent. Fingers crossed it's all going to go well.

You could of course paint the woodwork and doors white, but I'm guessing the LL might not be up for that which is why I didn't suggest it originally.

I'm thinking I might paint the doors and woodwork white anyway and then suck up the deposit malarkey at the end.we actually get in to see it next Monday. I'm very excited but concerned about the colour of the tiles, the whole villa is tiled, the kitchen units & worktop and sink and bathrooms. We know the estate is relatively old so our expectations are low. And of course they won't be anywhere enough electrical sockets.
