Lights for kitchen - help!!

Hi all

DH and I are renting a flat with a kitchen lit by a strip light. It is just hideous. I don't want to start playing around with electricals particularly so was just wondering if anyone had any bright (ha ha) ideas about what other kind of lighting I could put in that wouldn't look stupid in a kitchen but will also enable me to actually see what I am doing? Unfortunately the kitchen is right next to the dining room so if I leave the door open it ruins any kind of ambient lighting.

Wise mumsnet tees - any ideas??

Thanks!

Maybe you could put some lighting under the cabinets? You can get stick-on spotlights or strip lights that go under the cabinets to create a more soft light when you don't need overhead lighting?
