I normally buy from John Lewis but there's nothing in stock there that I like at the moment. Any other suggestions please?

Dunelm mill have some nice ones.

I ended up buying a plain white cotton set from Dunelm mill and adding a cheerful fleece blanket on top.

A friend bought the same set and then bought two sets of proper dye from Dylon, and tie dyed them - beautiful. Very tempted to do the same.

I like Next, they always seem to have a few really nice sets and the ones I've bought my children are great quality.

For quality I'd say Next as they just wash n wash without losing colour & the material is good quality

I have found Laura Ashley to be good quality and often have 30% off days.

I'd never have thought it but the best duvet set I've ever bought was a character one (tmnt) from b&q! Washes well, dries quickly, no fading and doesn't require ironing.

As a bonus It was half price in their sale!

I'd say next also, they seem much better quality than others i have bought.

White Company. Absolutely the best we've had. Wash so well- still look brand new, despite years of use.
Expensive, but usually can get a discount code.

I personally would avoid Next as the reason their bed sets are hard wearing is that they are about 50% polyester which I wouldn't want to sleep under.

Feather and Black do a few children's sets. There's also often sets in TK Maxx/Homesense which can be very good quality but obviously that would be more hit and miss.

For quality definitely Next. I bought my DD a brightly coloured bedroom set (2*duvets/pillows, curtains, rug etc) 5 years ago, she wets the bed 3/4 times a week and the bedding gets washed each time and there is not any fading at all! The bedding is the exact same colour as the curtains still which have only been washed a handful of times. I am really really impressed and will be buying Next bedding for DS when he outgrows his baby bedding.

To be fair I've never slept in expensive bedding but I've slept in my DDs bed a few times after a waking night shift (her room is quieter and darker than mine!) and the sheets didn't feel uncomfortable.
Disclaimer: I do not work for Next Grin

I like 100% cotton for bed sheets so I have them from ikea and Laura Ashley.

If pure cotton is important for you, try Sheridan, it's also available in House of Fraser. They have various children's designs.

Depends what you mean by quality - I personally found the BHS ones OK and a good price - I didn't go for special children's ranges, though, just single sets (DDs are 11 and 6, they have ones with owls, a patchwork design print and a swirly patterned one amongst others)
