Is there any way to find out if a house housed evacuees in WW2?

Just wondering if anyone knows what kind of sources might be out there.

My children are curious about the history of the house we're moving to and they want to know if evacuees stayed there in the war. We know from neighbours that in the 1970s it was lived in by an elderly couple who had lived there for decades, and would have had lots of space.

We know the town took in evacuees (and a school was evacuated to the local stately home). Are there any places I could look for documents that might tell us?

Thanks Smile

Don't know sadly but marking my place as live in similar big old place and often wonder.

Locals and cleaner all claim they are too young to remember!

The local town hall might have records. I think people had to register an interest to take in evacuees.
