Social work masters?

Hi all
I work in an adult/elderly social care team and whilst I enjoy my job, I'm unable to progress grade and money wise without a social work degree.

My first degree is in an unrelated field and was a veeerrry long time ago, so I'm considering doing an MA or MSc. My LA does offer a handful of sponsorships each year, but competition for them is fierce.

So my question is, anyone done one recently?
How was it for you?
Has it been worth it?

many thanks

I have the BA in social work but work with lots of people who have the MA. I know what you mean about competition in LA for secondments - so many people go for them.

In MA is more intense than the BA but everyone I know who did it loved it.

In terms of is it worth it you will have reached a salary ceiling won't you so financially you will gain, although I have been left with a 25 grand debt but my earning potential is so much higher than it would have been without. From a career development point of you its also worth it. I was a support worker for 10 years now its me that make the decisions about cases and I was really ready for that.

I loved my time at uni and don't ever regret the decision I made.
