Update on plans for next year after quitting my job

original thread about quitting

Well, I did hand my notice in to my current school and had it accepted (little choice there) a while back, but have done some research and stuff since then and plans for next year are taking shape. I was/am very clear that I didn't want to have a permanent job in a school as didn't want to risk being in the same situation as I am in now.

So:

Firstly I have agreed to go back to my current school for one day a week! This wasn't my priginal plan but felt I should. School has now gone into Special measures and the whole of my department has resigned for next year. HoD has new job closer to home, other member of department is retiring. My post had been replaced by a new FT staff, but he isn't experienced enough to be HoD or work on his own within department. Other 2 posts can't be filled until Christmas now. So, out of kindness and because I felt so bad for the school I offered to do a day a week to help with the transition and hand over of the department, which school jumped at. So I will do that one day each week. Good for me too as means PILs can still have Mollie one day a week - school is close to them,

The other thing is I applied a while back to go on the pool of supply/cover staff at one of our local prisons/Young Offenders Institutes, and had my interview this morning. They seemed really interested and may even be able to offer me a full day each week teaching Business Studies, and some IT. The interview was a bit daunting, especially as I wasn't really expecting a proper, formal interview. But never mind. The two teachers I'd be working with (on the one day a week) / covering (they have 12 weeks holiday each a year so lots of cover) were happy with me so I have to wait for my police and security checks to go through and see if they are going to take me on. This will be throughout the year (so would have more regular income in holidays) - need to check how many holidays I'd get though. Comparable pay to teaching too

I also have 2 forms here for supply agencies for teaching in Sheffield. One is the main LEA one; other is a private one. Have one bit of form to complete and I'll post them. I have spoken to the LEA agency and they seem to be quite desperate forsecondary teacher so again should be okay finding work. But if the prison work comes off I will only need one day a week anyway.

So overall I am feeling really positive about everything
