Do I get paid if dd is sick?

hi all

my dd attends an asquith nursery and I have been told she cannot attend tomorrow as she has conjunctivitus, apparently all the babies have it

I went to dr on monday to ask for drops and he said that it is caused by a virus and they no longer give eye drops unless it gets really bad

I explained this to nursery (it was better by tuesday, and she was clear this morning but I am guessing her eyes gunnked up when she napped this pm) and they said that she either has to be on drops for 24hrs or has to have a note from the dr explaining why she cannot have drops, before she can return.

Obviously I have to pay for this day off, but also I am unsure about whether I will get paid at work? Does anyone know about this? I am a teacher/

hi ginger, i am a teacher too. you will get paid, as there is a certain no. of days off per year that you can have off to look after a sick child. after a while, it has to be taken as unpaid leave. not sure how many days allowed

ginger, i though it was more than that, tbh. you can always share it with dh. and, if it comes to it, i'd lie i would say i had a migraine.

noonar, what do you think it is? There is another thread on here with someone saying they only get paid first day.

I'm sure in our local council it says 3 days, and they ultimately employ us. However am not sure if it is up to each individual school, as think some schools don't pay anything.

dh is self employed so it really all falls to me to stay home if dd is ill

You need to check your own terms and conditions or company policy to be sure.

Otherwise it would be classed as time off for dependants which is unapaid
